Description

Abrapower is a small to medium sized manufacturer of foam coated abrasives.  Inventory management is a key part of operations.  The function is currently handled by an in house accountant and controller,  utilizing a custom build access database and quickbooks accounting software.  Over the summer Abrapower will be upgrading this function to a more robust ERP all in one solution. 

Responsibilities

1.  Track and reconcile raw materials,  work-in-progress,  and finished goods using the current accounting and inventory system.

2.  Monitor and record inventory costs,  analyze cost variances,  and support standard costing procedures.

3.  Inventory reconcilation -  conduct regular cycle counts an full phyisical inventory checks,  investigate discrepancies,  and ensure accurate reporting.

4.  ERP Implementation Support -  assist in planning,  configuration,  and deployment of a new ERP system,  including data migration and user testing.

5.  Process Improvement-  Identify opportunities to streamline inventory accounting processes and improve system workflows 

6.  Collaboration -  work closely with production,  purchasing,  and financing teams to ensure consistent and accurate inventory practices.

Qualifications / Career Path

   Completing a summer internship as an Inventory Accountant in a manufacturing setting can be highly valuable for a long-term career in accounting,  finance,  or operations.  It provides hands-on experience with inventory management,  cost accounting,  and ERP systems—key areas of expertise for roles in corporate finance,  supply chain management,  or even CFO-track positions.  Interns gain practical knowledge of how accounting supports production and business decisions,  while developing technical skills with real-world software systems and data.  Additionally,  exposure to cross-functional teams and process improvement initiatives builds problem-solving,  communication,  and project management abilities—critical for advancing into more strategic or leadership roles over time.
